Industrial 3D printing in Huntsville, for the programs next door.

Huntsville builds rockets. Marshall Space Flight Center matured the GRCop copper alloys for additive and hot fire tested printed combustion chambers; the Army’s aviation and missile commands and the Missile Defense Agency sit on Redstone Arsenal; Cummings Research Park houses the primes and the small firms that supply them; and engine and launch vehicle factories run in Huntsville and Decatur. A great deal of that hardware is designed within twenty miles of our shop, and a growing share of it has printed metal in it.

AME was set up in 2018 to give those programs a local option for laser powder bed fusion: an EOS M 400 with a 400 × 400 × 400 mm envelope, run on Inconel 718 and GRCop-42, by a team with 35 combined years in additive. We built a GRCop-42 fuel injector with NASA and Marshall under our chief engineer Ken Cooper. Blue Origin, NASA, the Department of War and Mountain Aerospace are among the customers we have worked with.

What being local gets you.

  • An engineer across the table. Bring the model, the drawing and the problem. A design review in person, on the floor, beats a portal.
  • See the part on the plate. Walk the floor, look at the build, pick up the parts when they are done.
  • HUBZone and Small Disadvantaged Business. For government buyers, set aside eligible. For primes, credit toward small business subcontracting goals with a supplier a short drive away.
  • The same standards as anyone. Locked parameters, traced powder, witness coupons, build records, and finishing partners we already work with for HIP, heat treatment and machining.

Where we serve.

From the shop: Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Athens, Harvest, Meridianville, Hazel Green, Owens Cross Roads, Guntersville, Scottsboro, Cullman and Fayetteville, Tennessee. Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Marshall and Jackson counties. Anywhere in North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley is a drive, and anywhere in the United States is a shipment.

Most of our customers are outside Alabama. Local is a convenience, not a condition.

Metal 3D printing companies in Huntsville: how we fit.

There is a healthy 3D printing scene here: polymer shops for FDM and SLA, machine shops adding a metal printer, cold spray and directed energy deposition for large structures, and university labs. AME is the full melt laser powder bed fusion shop, on a 400 mm platform, in two flight alloys. If you need a plastic prototype we will point you to someone good. If you need an Inconel manifold or a copper chamber liner, that is what the machine on our floor does all day. What the service includes.

Questions we get asked.

Where is AME located?

128 Hall Bryant Circle NW, Huntsville, Alabama 35806, in northwest Huntsville. Get directions.

Can I visit the shop?

Yes, by appointment. Call (256) 929-2332 and we will set a time. Bring the model and the drawing; a design review on the floor, next to the machine, is the best first meeting.

Do you work with Redstone Arsenal and NASA Marshall programs?

Yes. We built a GRCop-42 fuel injector with NASA and Marshall Space Flight Center, and NASA, Blue Origin and the Department of War are among the customers we have worked with. As a HUBZone and Small Disadvantaged Business we are eligible for set asides and count toward prime contractors’ small business subcontracting goals.

Do you do metal 3D printing for customers outside Huntsville?

Yes. Most of our customers are outside Alabama and we ship nationwide. Being local is a convenience for the programs next door, not a condition.

What is the largest metal part you can print in Alabama?

400 × 400 × 400 mm in one piece, on the EOS M 400. It is the largest commercial metal additive platform in the state.

Do you offer plastic or FDM printing in Huntsville?

No. We run laser powder bed fusion in metal only. Our FDM versus metal guide explains when a plastic prototype is enough and when it is not, and there are good polymer shops in town for the plastic pass.
